A Multiple Pheromone Communication System for Swarm Intelligence

Pheromones are chemical substances essential for communication among social insects. In the application of swarm intelligence to real micro mobile robots, deployment a single virtual pheromone has emerged recently as powerful real-time method indirect communication. However, these studies usually exploit only one kind pheromones in their task, neglecting crucial fact that world insects, multiple play important roles shaping stigmergic behaviors such foraging or nest building. To explore mechanism which enable robots solve complex collective tasks efficiently, we introduce an artificial system (ColCOS $\Phi $ ) support research by enabling deploy and react simultaneously. The proposed ColCOS uses optical signals emulate different evaporating i.e. pheromones. These emulated represented trails displayed on wide LCD display screen positioned horizontally, miniature can move freely. color sensors beneath detect identify lingering “pheromones” screen. Meanwhile, release any from each robot is enabled monitoring its positional information over time with overhead camera. No other methods apart employed this system. Two case have been carried out verified feasibility effectiveness achieving empowered This novel platform timely tool into intelligence.
